Does Your Church Lie to You About the Law?
Is it possible (according to the Bible) to be "saved" and not obey the Law given to the Hebrews through Moses? Did that Law get "nailed to a cross?" The "casual Christian's" beliefs surrounding this topic are generally TAUGHT from a pulpit, and rarely ever STUDIED or EXAMINED or TESTED in the Scriptures. As a result, 2.8 billion people believe that 66% of the Bible is now obsolete. Could this be an enormous error? Please consider the following:
Where Does This Belief Come From?
First, everybody who teaches "the Law is abolished," quotes Paul. Nothing but Paul. Ironically, Peter WARNED US that this very thing was happening. Peter wrote that Paul's teachings were often HARD TO UNDERSTAND, and that men used his words to lead people into the error of "ATHESMOS" which means LAWLESSNESS.
2 Peter 3:15-17 And account that the longsuffering of our Master is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you. As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which SOME THINGS HARD TO BE UNDERSTOOD, which they that are unlearned and unstable WREST, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest YE ALSO,BEING LED AWAY WITH THE ERROR OF THE WICKED, fall from your own stedfastness.
"Wicked?" What does that mean? G113 - ἄθεσμος a derivative of G5087; lawless
Didn't "Jesus" Abolish the Law?
We have a prophecy in Daniel of the one we call "Antichrist," that says he will think to change the "moedim" (appointed times, rehearsals) and LAW of YHWH:
Daniel 7:25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.
Again, it wasn't the TRUE Messiah who would make the Laws and the Feasts and the Sabbath go away, but rather it was the FALSE messiah! That's why today, a third of the world refuses to sanctify the seventh day, abolishes the commandments and statutes and judgments of YHWH, and celebrates the solstices (Christmas and Easter) instead of the Feasts we were commanded to keep FOR ALL TIME.
It's worth noting that the Messiah kept the Law. All of the Apostles kept the Law. Messiah taught that until the sky and earth disappear, not even the smallest part of the Law would disappear. Peter, even 15 years after spending 70 weeks with Messiah in the flesh still KNEW it was wrong to eat unclean things and refused all three times his vision TOLD HIM to kill and eat. He later understood in Acts 10:47 that that vision had nothing to do with FOOD and everything to do with PEOPLE.
Delivered From Under the Law
Paul taught about several "Laws" which are almost indistinguishable in English. When he said "nomos," he spoke of any of several laws. When he said "ho nomos" he was speaking SPECIFICALLY of the Law of YHWH. Paul (Sha'ul) taught that we are free from several things to include:
- the law of sin and death.
- the law of the Pharisees (Rabbinical Judaisim)
- the curse of the Law (not that the Law is a curse, but there is a curse for breaking it)
- the debt we had accrued for our transgressions of the Law
From all of those things, WE ARE DELIVERED!!!!!!!! 100% free!!!!!! WOO - HOO!!!! I like it!
But are we free from the Law that YHWH said was eternal, freedom, unburdensome, a blessing, holy, and righteous? Well, what did Paul say?
Romans 3:31 Do we then make void the Law (ho nomos) through faith? YHWH forbid! Yea, we establish the Law (ho nomos).
So does the Law save anybody? NO! Can a man earn salvation? NO! Are we justified by the Law? NO!
But is it a sin to trespass the Law? YES! 1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the Law: for SIN IS THE TRANSGRESSION OF THE LAW.
If we break the Law, does YHWH hear our prayers? NO! Proverbs 28:9 He that turneth away his ear from hearing the Law, even his prayer shall be abomination.
So What About the "New Testament?"
Messiah said that in judgment, he would REJECT those who don't keep the Law. It wasn't for lack of faith or grace - but for breaking the Law. And who are these people? They are people who call him "Lord." They cast out demons. They prophesy. They do MANY WONDERFUL THINGS! They are people you and I would consider "good Christians." But consider what he said:
Matthew 7:22-23 Many will say to me in that day, "Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? And in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name done many wonderful works?" And then will I profess unto them, "I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."
"Iniquity?" What's that? G458 - ἀνομία - From G459; illegality, that is, violation of law.
The last point I'd make here is that THREE TIMES in Revelation, the LAST book of the Bible, it says we must keep the commandments (aka the Law). If it was still necessary then, who had the authority to change it after?
Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of YHWH, and the faith of Yahshua.
